ELIGIBILITY- Be enrolled as a John Jay undergraduate (60 credits or more) or graduate student - Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher; have a GPA of 3.5 or higher for your major area of study- Have at least an A- in the course(s) you want to tutor- Have strong interpersonal and communication skills- Have a flexible schedule; must be available to tutor at least 4 hours per week
QUALIFICATIONS- Have the ability to build strong and positive relationships- Have strong interpersonal and communication skills- Have strong organizational and time management skills- Have the desire to assist students transitioning to college and persist- Be sensitive to people of different educational, economic, cultural and racial backgrounds
TIME COMMITMENT- A two (2) semester commitment is required for this position (August 2017- June 2018).- Peer Tutors must participate in all recruiting events, and info sessions throughout the year.- Students must be available the week of August 14th for training sessions.- Students must be able to attend two (2) monthly staff meetings: one group staff meeting and a one-on-one meeting with the Peer Tutoring Coordinator.
