Give a Stray a Story
In collaboration with the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin, we're encouraging teens ages 13 to 18 to Give a Stray a Story! Each year, over a thousand dogs and cats get their fur-ever homes thanks to the Humane Society. Although their futures look bright, sometimes their pasts are unknown. But every animal deserves a good story, and we're encouraging you to create one!
Here's what you need to do:
1. Head to the HSSW's website (
) and browse through the adoptable pets. Stories must be about a pet at our shelter, not a personal pet.
2. Create a backstory for this animal! Be creative! Give us any genre of story, just make sure it is appropriate. General rule of paw, would you feel comfortable reading your story aloud at a school event? Stories must be between 1,000 and 2,500 words. Illustrations are not required, but encouraged!
3. Submit your story by 6:00 on Friday, June 25. Stories can be submitted via this form or a hard copy may be turned in at the library.
All submissions will be reviewed by Humane Society and Library staff and the winner will be announced June 30.
Winner receives a prize basket and the chance to name a future adoptable animal, and two runner ups will also get the chance to name a future adoptable animal. (Must be able to pick up prize at the library.)
