Why 100% Voting Communities?
Regardless of who wins the elections, engagement in the electoral process helps to ensure that elected officials consider the voices of faith and conscience in their constituency and understand that we care for policies of justice and compassion. FAN is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and our civic engagement work is non-partisan. While we do not endorse candidates, faith communities can play critical roles in ensuring that their community members honor the sacred privilege of voting in a democracy. We believe that it is an important segment of FAN advocacy for FAN advocates to be registered, equipped to vote, and communicate our mission and values with their elected leaders and candidates. That is why we are encouraging faith communities to commit collectively to becoming 100% voting communities! I By “100% voting,” we encourage faith communities to have 100% voter turnout of those who are eligible. We also encourage efforts to educate, register and get out the vote in the wider community.
While 100% voter turnout is the shared goal in this campaign, there is no strict qualification requirement to become a 100% voting community; what matters the most is a commitment and a passion for upholding the common good through voting and civic engagement. We will not be conducting a survey to see if the faith communities reach 100% turnout; we respect and trust in each community to decide their way of becoming a 100% voting community that fits their own context.
Once you sign up, FAN is committed to offering information, resources, and support to accomplish the goals you set for your community. This includes zoom check-in meetings once a month this summer to strategize together and encourage one another in this process.
