FAN New Releases - Strategic Venue application
We have been working closely with Film Hub teams across the UK to identify theatrical, independent exhibitors to participate as a strategic venue in FAN’s New Release Support (April 2020 - March 2022 subject to an annual review)

They have put forward your venue and we invite you to take a few moments to fill in this short form to ensure that this is the right fit for you and that we can respond to your needs. If you have any questions, please email or call: 0117 9275120.

In each region, the ambition is to support two venues, ideally one small to medium theatrical exhibitor that might be starting out on its journey of showing a more diverse cultural film offer and one more established venue that is hoping to stretch its offer and diversify its audience for cultural film.

- Travel bursary to participate in an audience development workshop in April 2020 to kick start the programme led by industry experts at Watershed, Bristol.
- Access to a peer group of exhibition practitioners through an annual FAN wide meet-up and region specific sessions (optional)
- Access to bespoke audience development packs and marketing assets for each film selected for FAN New Releases from digital assets to event suggestions and merchandise - see
- Ongoing mentoring and hands-on support from a marketing consultant based in your Hub area to develop and deliver an audience development plan that works for your location and venue, targeted at expanding audiences for independent new releases and reaching specific groups such as young people 16-30s, LGBT+, BAME, disabled audience members .
- Financial support of up to £200 for special events such as a post-film discussion, guest speaker or a food tie-in and £30 towards press and marketing ideas or social media advertising for each FAN-supported new release screened (until April 2021)

- Passionate about independent films and attracting new audiences to watch a wider range of cinema in their venue.
- Committed to welcoming more diverse and younger audiences (aged 16-30), but looking for help with capacity and/or skills to reach them.
- Able to commit to screening BFI FAN supported new releases (4 per year) where possible*, from April 2020 to March 2022.
- Looking to "event-ise" their screenings with added-value content such as talent Q&As, guest speakers, post-film discussions, etc...
- Able to commit to a member of staff (preferably marketing) attending the Audience Development workshop at Watershed, Bristol in April 2020 (bursaries will be provided to cover travel costs)
- Be able to undertake audience surveying after the screening of the titles to aid with reporting (surveys to be supplied.)

*We understand that there are circumstances that may prevent a venue from going ahead with showing particular films, but do request a commitment where possible to put on at least one screening of each FAN New Release title.

Please note, if this isn’t for you, or your application isn’t successful this first year, all FAN venues across the UK can continue to access:

- BFI FAN New Releases Marketing Packs
- Amplified regional press and marketing campaign
- Support for Facebook ads, special events or other marketing ideas
