Wilderness Youth Safety Education (WYSE)
Learn about outdoor safety through interactive, hands-on learning! The program begins with a mock outdoor adventure and the creation of teams. Students are then given a deck of cards and together, (in their teams) choose the most essential items they deem necessary for their adventure. As we head outdoors, student teams will learn a variety of outdoor skills as they work to overcome challenges at each station. Navigation, wildlife safety, snow safety, shelter building, fire starting, wilderness first aid, and water safety are just a few of the skills they will be challenged with during this program. As students travel through each skill station, they will refer back to their deck of cards to determine if they packed anything useful to help overcome each challenge. This helps students learn to identify important items to carry with them on their outdoor adventures.

The knowledge gained during WYSE will last a lifetime and this program is chock full of important life-saving skills all Alaskans should know!
