About the Scholarship
Youth Assisting Youth (YAY) is dedicated to investing in the leaders of tomorrow and transforming the lives of youth through the power of peer mentorship. YAY empowers volunteer youth mentors to be effective leaders, mentors and role models to at-risk and newcomer kids. Mentors gain the confidence, skills and connections they need to achieve their personal, academic and professional goals, while having a positive and profound impact in the life of their mentee.

The 2023 5th Annual Gil Orbach Joy Scholarship Program will recognize and acknowledge the remarkable contributions of our volunteer youth mentors, by providing two post-secondary scholarships of $1800 to outstanding youth mentors in our program. The scholarships commemorate and continue the passionate work of Gil Orbach, a dedicated YAY Youth Mentor for several years, who tragically passed away in 2017.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
•  Applicants MUST be current, existing YAY Mentors that have been matched with their mentee for a minimum of one year.

SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION CRITERIA:
•  Demonstrated Commitment and Leadership as a YAY Mentor;
•  Academic Potential – Scholarships will be awarded to full or part-time students who have been accepted to and will be attending a post-secondary institution during the 2023-2024 school year;
•  Financial Need – The selection committee will make it a priority to select recipients who have demonstrated a clear need for financial support;
•  Strength and Quality of the written responses to each application question – Applicants should answer each question fully and directly.

Application Deadline:  5:00 PM, July 10, 2023

YAY is extremely grateful to the family of Gil Orbach for their generous sponsorship of the Gil Orbach Joy Scholarship Program.
