WCSC Virtual Summer School Sign Up
The Warrick County School Corporation will be conducting a virtual summer school (online). This will take place between Thursday May 30th, 2019 to Friday July 19th, 2019. Any Warrick County School Corporation student can take up to two courses. The corporation recommends that students only take one course since the coursework is rigorous. Those wanting to take two courses will need additional approval from their counselor and must meet individually with the counselor to discuss the rigors of doing two courses. A student will take one course at a time and will only be allowed to start the second course if there is enough time to finish by the end of summer school. The students must be a rising sophomore, junior, senior, or a senior that is supposed to graduate in 2019. Preference will be given to seniors and juniors if the slots fill up. Students must have parent permission to take an online course as well as permission from their high school counselor. There are no costs associated with these courses. The only onsite requirement is when a student has to take a test and a one hour meeting before they can begin a class (information about the time and place will be forthcoming). All of the tests will be proctored by a teacher at one of the computer labs that will be opened in the Newburgh and Boonville areas. The labs will be closed Thursday July 4th and Friday July 5th. We will send out more information once we determine what our students need for their summer courses. This form must be filled out in full by Friday March 22nd, 2019.
The school issued Chromebook will be with the student during the virtual summer school. The student must maintain the device as well as follow all of the usage rules which are in force 24 hours 7 days a week. The devices will still be monitored during this time.
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION VERY CAREFULLY!
A regular course in the Warrick County School Corporation has approximately 75 hours of seat time per semester. This does not include time at home doing homework which can add more hours to the course. The online courses are very similar in their time to complete a course at the traditional school. EXAMPLES: Algebra I - 1st semester takes approximately 75 hours per the syllabus online, Health takes approximately 79 hours per the syllabus online, and Government takes approximately 82 hours per the syllabus online.

In order for a student to take one course online they will need to be able to commit at least 12 hours per week in order to complete one course by the due date. This equates to about 1 hour and 45 minutes per day on a course. If a student wants to take two courses they would need to spend 24 hours per week in order to complete two courses by the due date. This equates to about 3 hours and 30 minutes per day on the two courses.

IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU ONLY TAKE ONE VIRTUAL SUMMER SCHOOL COURSE.
Please fill out the following information in full. Any information that is not filled out correctly can preclude you from being enrolled in the virtual summer school.
Filling out this form does not necessarily mean a student will be enrolled in a course. The counselor at the student's high school must approve the course. There must be enough students for the course to be offered. Selection for summer school can be affected by graduating Seniors, rising Seniors, and rising Juniors.
In order for courses to be offered there needs to be a minimum number of students per course. If that number is not met then the course will not be offered.

The student is required to sit down with the counselor who will determine if the student can take the second course. A student will only be allowed to work on one course at a time. If the first course is not completed in a timely manner then the second course will not be started.
By typing in my name below I understand that my course selection must be approved by my high school counselor and filling out this form does not necessarily mean I will be taking summer school virtually. I also acknowledge that I will receive an F on my transcript if I fail to finish the work by Friday July 19th, 2019. If I need to drop out of a class or classes I must do so in writing to the summer school organizer by Friday June 14th, 2019. Failure to do so will mean that I will receive an F on my transcript. By typing in my name below I understand that my son or daughter is not necessarily approved for the virtual summer school until the high school counselor approves the course selection and/or there are enough seats available. I also acknowledge that my son or daughter will receive an F on their transcript if they fail to finish the work by Friday July 19th, 2019. As a parent or guardian I will make sure my child is doing the necessary work to stay on target for completion. If my child needs to drop out of a class or classes they must do so in writing to the summer school organizer by Friday June 14th, 2019. Failure to do so will mean that they will receive an F on their transcript. By signing below I understand the above information and I am giving my child permission to take an online course over the summer (May 30th, 2019 to July 19th, 2019). *
