On a single Book Dash day, volunteer creative teams work fast to make beautiful African children’s books that anyone can freely access, print and distribute. All our books are made in 12-hour sprints by creative professionals who volunteer their time because they believe in our vision. To date, we've published 108 books this way, and printed and distributed over 200 000 copies to children across the country.
This is the Comrades of creativity and we'd love you to join us!
To participate, you'll need to be a creative professional. There'll be a little prepwork before the event, but most importantly, you need to be available from 9am to 9pm on Saturday the 27th October. You HAVE to be able to be physically present for the entire time on the day, this is not negotiable. You will also need to get yourself to and from the venue in Jeppestown, Johannesburg on the day. We provide lots of good food and drinks to keep you going throughout the day! Our aim with Book Dash events is to attract great creatives from the surrounding area. However, applicants from further afar are welcome to apply as long as you are able to arrange and cover your own transport and accommodation.
In the following form, tell us about yourself, and your experience writing, editing, designing, or illustrating. You will apply as an individual, but can request to work with a friend, if you are both successful in your applications and apply for different positions within the team.
If you're not a writer, illustrator, designer or editor, but are still passionate about children's literacy, why not apply to help out in a support role? We need photographers, videographers, tech support, art directors and social media storytellers to make Book Dash a success.
To find out more about us, or to see all 108 existing books, visit bookdash.org. For enquiries, email email@example.com.
Applications close on Thursday, 20th September 2018. No late applications will be accepted. This is a volunteer-based event, and no one gets paid for their participation on the day: the books are our gift to the world!
