Discover high-leverage scaffolds for differentiating curriculum and instruction so they are more accessible to Newcomer MLL students. We unpack an entirely scaffolded lesson over the course of two workshop sessions to look more closely at the varied strategies for providing Newcomer MLLs with the access points they need to participate in the lesson and reach the same objectives as their peers. In both sessions, participants have the opportunity to apply new learning around differentiating writing tasks, narrowing down text, scaffolding the pre-writing process, and building schema around new content.
2. PEDAGOGY ON THE PAGE: SCAFFOLDING ILLUSTRATIVE MATH HANDOUTS FOR MULTILINGUAL LEARNERS
Thursday, August 21, 2025; 11:00 AM - 1:30 PM EST
This workshop provides math educators using the Illustrative Math (IM) curriculum with the tools and know-how for effectively scaffolding their handouts so that their contents are accessible to all MLLs. Participants will have multiple opportunities to practice identifying difficult aspects of student-facing IM worksheets and collaboratively coming up with the necessary scaffolds.
