Elliott-Black Award: 2019 Schedule and Process
The AEU Ethical Action Committee seeks nominations for the Elliott-Black Award of the American Ethical Union.

Nominees are selected for actions which have exhibited exceptional moral courage and represent the best of Ethical Culture / Ethical Humanist values, including honoring individual worth and dignity, and bringing out the best in others. Except in unusual circumstances, the person receives the award at the Assembly during a special dinner held in their honor.  This year's Assembly theme is Reclaiming Democracy for All. ( If government of the people is to be by and for the people, then we, the people, need to reclaim it before it slips away. Marginalized groups and women already are denied equitable influence in social polity. Voter suppression targets people of color, women are underrepresented, and money in politics threatens democracy by giving corporate interests such as the NRA disproportionate power.)  The Assembly this year will be held in Tampa, FL - June 20 - 23, 2019.

Societies are polled, first to nominate individuals who meet the criteria above, and then, after nominations are submitted, Societies are again polled to select the winner. Societies shall determine whether their Board or Ethical Action Committee or a vote of the membership is used to cast the Society’s vote.

* Deadline for nominations is March 22, 2019

* Notification to Societies of nominees will be distributed by March 25, 2019

* Deadline for final voting is April 8, 2019

Please be sure that your Society is able to vote in the March 25 to April 8 window. Nominations or final votes submitted after the given deadlines cannot be included. The Board and Assembly committee will be notified of the results, and a member of the Board may audit the results of the nomination or voting process, if the Board so decides.

The AEU Ethical Action Committee and the Assembly Committee are jointly responsible for the format and execution of Elliott-Black Award Dinner at the Assembly.
