Youth Media Center - Program & Event Sign-up
Thank you for your interest in youth programming at SLB Radio's Youth Media Center! Our programs are free and open to all teenage students in Allegheny County and surrounding areas. This form is updated regularly to reflect current and upcoming programs and events, and you can fill it out more than once! You can also view the full YMC calendar here. 

Space is currently available for the following programs/events: 

📢 Youth Reporter Meet-Up
> Mondays: May 6, 13, 20, & 27
> 4:30 - 6 pm
Calling all teen journalists, writers, podcasters, and media-makers! Join us to network, create, and learn about new opportunities. No experience necessary; join us any time. Dinner will be provided! 

🏰  Dungeons & Dragons: The Underdark
> May 1, 8, 15, 22, & 29
> 4:30 - 6 pm
Delve deep beneath the Children’s Museum to the YMC and join us for a weekly, beginner-friendly Dungeons & Dragons game. Come on an adventure with us! What say you?!


🌠 Storytelling Workshop: Metaphor

Leave your pen and paper at the door! In this workshop we will explore how to confidently craft and deliver off-the-cuff stories to your crew or a crowd.

🎶 Music Tech Workshop: Chad’s Vinyl Garage

Ever wonder how your great-grandparents used to listen to music? Using our Meissner phono recorder, we’ll explore how audio is converted into physical grooves on a plastic disc then turned back into acoustic sound!

🤡Comedy Workshop: Jest for the Record

In this workshop we’ll listen to some stand-up comedy, then you’ll start crafting your “tight five” and record your very own comedy special. No joke!

🔮 Mixed Media Workshop: Vision Board Collages

As this school year comes to an end, we’re taking some time to think about the future! Create a collage and audio essay about the things you hope to do, learn, and be—or maybe just your summer dreams.

🐕Audio Workshop: On the Street Interviews (with Dogs)

Get your microphone within barking distance of local dogs and their owners. Build your skills in interviewing and field recording, all while capturing stories of four-legged friendship.

🐦Roundtable Pod: Not-So-Silent Spring

Have a passion for environmentalism and sustainability, or interested in learning more? Join us to discuss what we can do in our communities to honor Pittsburgh’s most notable conservationist writer, Rachel Carson.

✍️ Poetry Cafe: Words with Walt Whitman

Join us to write poems, read, and share ideas as we explore and draw inspiration from the words of American poet Walt Whitman. No prior poetry experience needed! Prompts and snacks will be provided.

🔥 ⛺Audio Workshop: Campfire Field Recordings

Come gather by the campfire to learn about the joys and challenges of recording in the field. What does it take to perform and record in the great outdoors? S’mores provided (vegan + GF).

Fully-registered students attending workshops marked with an asterisk (*) will earn a stipend for their participation! 

Please note that you must fill out both the Youth Media Center General Registration and the Youth Media Center Release Form to be considered fully registered. You do not need to complete these forms again if you have already done so in the past! If you're not sure, please reach out and we'll let you know if we have your information on file.
