May 11, 2020 CTLE Virtual Workshop Registration: Intro to LON-CAPA Part I: Course Management Capabilities
Title: Intro to LON-CAPA Part I: Course Management Capabilities
Date: Monday, May 11, 10-11:30am
A course management system for the online course: LON-CAPA
LON-CAPA (Learning Online Network - Computer Assisted Personalized Approach) is an alternative CMS available to all VCU faculty and students. In addition to all the standard features of a CMS like Blackboard, LON-CAPA offers the possibility of creating individualized assessments for students in large classes that are automatically graded. Other features included setting unique parameters (due dates, for example) for sections (in multi-section courses), for teams of students, and for individual students. The system is internationally networked so that instructors may import a large variety of problems into their courses. LON-CAPA has been widely adopted around the world in STEM areas including biology, chemistry, engineering, math, and physics - at all levels. Here at VCU, LON-CAPA is the course management system used by courses in biology, chemistry, and physics.
We will have two short, hands-on workshops to introduce both the course management and coding capabilities of LON-CAPA. Each workshop, on the zoom platform, will last about one and a half hours. Computer and internet access is critical.
The workshop facilitator, Sally Hunnicutt, has used LON-CAPA exclusively for her CMS for over ten years.
Note: A Zoom link and password will be provided on the confirmation page after filling this form out. Please be sure to save it.
