GOALS OF THE PROGRAM: Participants will gain public speaking, storytelling, and advocacy skills through engagement with the program's three core themes.
THEME ONE: IDENTITY & SELF• Participants will delve into their personal and cultural identity and how they can apply their experiences in their community and society.• Participants will understand the importance of intersectionality of their identities and how it relates to social and political contexts.THEME TWO: SOCIAL MOVEMENTS• Participants will study past social movements of AAPIs and the social and political climate of that time and how that has affected current society. THEME THREE: CAPACITY BUILDING • Participants will cultivate community with each other and the ECAASU National Board and Board of Directors. • Participants will work on a project based on an issue of their choice and go through a reflection process of their project. • Participants will be able to take the knowledge from this program and experiences and apply it to their communities and other aspects of their lives.
REQUIREMENTS/EXPECTATIONS: • Attend bi-monthly online meetings (60-90 min). • Complete assignments before meetings in order for us to have more productive and involved discussions!• Contact Jessie and Shania 24 hours in advance if missing any meetings, and complete a written assignment in place of that week’s discussion. • Create and present a project on an AAPI topic/issue as the conclusion for the program, with support from ECAASU National Board members• Recommended that you attend the 2020 ECAASU Conference (around February/March). HSP participants receive waived conference registration and lodging fees.
