About the Brownsville Youth Court
The Brownsville Youth Court trains teenagers to serve as jurors, judges and advocates, handling real-life cases involving their peers. The goal of Youth Court is to use positive peer pressure to ensure that young people who have committed minor offenses learn accountability and repair the harm caused by their actions. Requirements to Apply
- You must be 14 to 18-years-old by April 15th, 2017. If you are under 18, you will need your parent or guardian’s permission to join. - You must be able to attend training sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from May 2017 – June 2017. - You must be able to attend hearings on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:00 - 6:30 PM, from July 2017 to January 2018.

In this application, you will be asked to submit 3 short essays (150 word limit). Once you start this application, you will NOT be able to save it. We suggest you think about and write out your essay answers BEFORE starting this application. Here are the essay questions: REQUIRED: Why would you like to be a Youth Court member? CHOOSE 2 from below: 1. What qualities do you have that would make you a positive peer role model for other teens? 2. Describe a time when you had to work with others in a group setting. What role did you play in the group? How did you work with others to achieve your group's goal? 3. If you could change one thing about your community, what would it be and why?
