What is PrEP?
Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a new and innovative way for people who do not have HIV to continue being HIV-free. If you take PrEP daily, the presence of the medicine in your bloodstream can stop HIV from taking hold and spreading in your body, translating to up to 99% protection from HIV. PrEP has been proven safe to use. While approximately 10% of people taking PrEP initially experience mild side-effects (such as nausea, diarrhea, and headaches), a great majority of those who use it reported no side-effects at all. Those who reported side-effects also said that these went away within a month of using PrEP.
