Boston Cares is the largest volunteer agency in New England, a member of the Points of Light Global Network, and an award-winning leader in the volunteer engagement sector. Filling more than 20,000 volunteer spots annually in support of more than 150 Greater Boston schools and non-profit agencies, we offer a wide array of programs and opportunities.

Boston Cares builds collaborative partnerships with nonprofits, schools, faith-based, government, and civic organizations to create real change through community involvement, volunteerism, and service. We work with our partners to engage thousands of volunteers in meaningful individual and corporate projects.

Please note: Boston Cares does NOT recruit or refer volunteers for:
• Events that occur once a year (i.e., a fundraiser or gala) for non-partners.
• Event support or volunteer participants for walks or runs.
• Projects that require handling money or direct fundraising or promotion (i.e., cold-calling people and asking
them to donate, stopping people on the street to tell them about a program).
• Projects that ask volunteers to take part in direct religious activity or proselytizing.
• Projects that ask volunteers to participate in political campaigns and partisan activities.

Is your agency a good fit for a Boston Cares partnership? In order to partner with Boston Cares your organization must meet all the following criteria. Please check all boxes below after reviewing: *

Be designated as a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit or is a public school, public charter school, or government program.

Does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, gender expression, age, national origin, citizenship, disability, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations

Offer projects on a recurring (i.e., garden work days or serving meals at a shelter on a regular schedule) OR seasonal (i.e., a special Thanksgiving meal, Memorial Day projects honoring veterans).

Offer projects through a Boston Cares Program at least three times a year.

Have liability insurance that covers volunteers.

Have the ability to be flexible: are you open to different volunteers supporting projects at your organization throughout the year?

Serve Greater Boston’s local population.

Boston Cares Programs- Please read a short description of Boston Cares Program offerings below and let us know which programs you are interested in learning more about! *

Online Volunteer Calendar: Our signature program for volunteers engages individuals through recurring, done-in-a-day projects throughout the year that do not require advanced training or special skills. These projects are led by Volunteer Leaders who help facilitate a quality project for volunteers and partners alike. On our calendar we also post both short-term (several weeks and/or semester long), long-term (year long commitment), these projects can be flexible and require some level of commitment from volunteers.

Allies for Immigrants ESOL Volunteer Tutor Corps: The Allies for Immigrants volunteer tutor corps is a program coordinated in partnership with English for New Bostonians. Volunteers are recruited and trained to serve as tutors in ESOL programs across the city of Boston.

Hands At Work: Our Hands At Work program identifies and develops one-time projects for Boston Cares corporate partners. These projects often come with larger groups and supply dollars.

Skills Based Volunteer Opportunities: volunteer placements can require an ongoing commitment, training, and/or a background check. Volunteers interested in participating in a skills based opportunity will be connected to your organization directly to engage with you in service as these projects are managed by you directly. Partners participating in this program are required to track Boston Cares skilled volunteer hours and share with Boston Cares.
