RIDOH 2018 Health Equity Summit: "Building Healthy and Resilient Communities"
The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) is now accepting workshop and presentation proposals for the 2018 Health Equity Summit on September 20, 2018 in Providence, RI. The theme of this year's conference is "Building Healthy and Resilient Communities" and includes three focus areas:

1. Scaling up place-based strategies like RI Health Equity Zones,
2. Promoting social cohesion and connectedness as a public health issue (to combat addiction and isolation), and
3. Community resiliency.

Authors are encouraged to submit proposals on the theme and their alignment with current and emerging health equity issues.

About Health Equity: The 2018 Healthy Equity Summit will provide individuals from all walks of life with the opportunity to come together to learn about and discuss current and emerging issues affecting health equity in our state. Health equity means everyone has fair and just opportunity to be healthier. This requires removing obstacles to health such as poverty, discrimination, and their consequences, including powerlessness and lack of access to good jobs with fair pay, quality education and housing, safe environments, and healthcare.

Summit Objectives:

• Promote a shared framework for advancing health equity;
• Explore recent progress and emerging opportunities and challenges related to addressing health disparities;
• Showcase regional, state, and local policy initiatives, systems change, and strategic practices that support the advancement of health equity;
• Renew our call to action through cross-sector collaborations, partnerships, and networking opportunities; and
• Launch the 2018 Association for State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) President's Challenge.

Proposal Requirements:

• Proposals will be accepted for presentations, panel presentations, hands-on workshops/breakout sessions, and poster presentations.
• Proposals will be accepted for presentations and workshops of a variety of lengths, including up to 90 minutes long. Proposals for longer presentations/workshops (60 minutes +) must include a minimum of 15-20 minutes for audience engagement.
• Presenters may submit a maximum of two proposals for consideration; however, no more than one proposal per presenter will be selected.

The submission deadline has been extended to April 30, 2018.

Notification: presenters will be notified via email of abstract status.

Please note: All presentation expenses (except room rental and audiovisual equipment) are the responsibility of the workshop organizer(s). RIDOH assumes no responsibility for payment of speaking fees or honorarium without prior authorization.
