Year Six Residential School Journey
Monday 9 September to Friday 13 September 2019
Once again we are organising a year six journey to the PGL Centre at Osmington Bay near Weymouth. This journey is always very successful and we have made a booking for five days beginning Monday 9 September 2019. The viability of going ahead with the visit does depend upon parents being willing to meet all the costs involved in running the trip – board and lodging, tuition, transport and insurance. Christ Church staffing costs are met by the school. As you will be aware there are strict guidelines laid down regarding charging for school trips and we follow these.
At this stage we do not have exact figures for the cost of the journey but estimate that the cost will be in the region of £390.00 per pupil. We appreciate that this seems expensive but when we compare what is on offer at what cost we have found that travelling in September and choosing PGL offers good value for money in terms of safety, food, accommodation and challenge. The final cost does depend upon the number of children travelling as the cost of the coach is shared equally amongst all participants so please do not send a payment of £390.00 now as this is not a definite cost.
At this time we are asking for a deposit of £50.00 (this deposit is not refundable) to secure your child’s place on the journey and an undertaking that you will meet the cost of board and lodging and will make the voluntary contributions when asked to or that you will speak to us if there are financial reasons for not being able to make the voluntary contributions.
To make the situation regarding board and lodging clear, in accordance with our charging policy and government guidelines, we are making a charge for this element of a school journey. This is not a voluntary contribution and this amount must be paid if you wish your child to take part. You should know that this payment may be reclaimed if you are entitled to any of the following benefits and are entitled to free school meals:
• Income Support • Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance • Income-related employment and support allowance • The guaranteed element of Pension Credit• support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 • Child Tax Credit provided the parent is not entitled to Working Tax Credit and their annual income does not exceed £16,190 • Working Tax Credit run-on-paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit• Universal Credit – if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)
No child will be excluded from taking part in this visit on the basis of inability or unwillingness to make the voluntary contribution but you should know that if insufficient donations are received the journey will be cancelled.
If you would like your child to participate, please complete and return the google form, together with the deposit of £50.00 before Monday 9 July. If paying by cheque, please make it payable to Christ Church School. Please remember payments can be made online through SCOPAY.
The week’s activities give many opportunities for the children to work together as a team with their peers, their year six teacher and other members of the school staff. Children who have taken part in previous years have found it to be a worthwhile and enjoyable experience.
The Centre has carried out full risk assessments for all activities and is proud of its safety record. This year the children took part in activities such as archery, abseiling and quad-biking.
It would be very helpful if you could complete the reply slip even if you do not wish your child to take part – we can then be certain of numbers wishing to participate.
