A coalition of Illinois library organizations including ILA, AISLE, RAILS, CARLI and IHLS are seeking to create regional teams of local school, academic, and public library staff who would be willing to get involved on a local level to help preserve intellectual freedom and Unite Against Book Bans in Illinois.
Volunteers can contribute in a variety of ways, which may include:
Letter writing to a governing body
Attending board meetings to be a VOICE or PRESENCE for libraries/library staff
Connecting with a library staff member experiencing a materials challenge for advice, consultation and/or moral support
Writing Op-Ed pieces for local news outlets
Researching and providing specific information/resources around a particular challenged book or resource
All volunteers will receive some basic training around intellectual freedom and related issues, and resources will be made available to support volunteer activities. Volunteers will be able to select the activities that are best suited to their abilities and comfort level.
Please take a minute to tell us who and where you are, and in what way(s) you'd like to get involved.
