Petition for Safer Streets in Green Lake & Wallingford
Dear Seattle Department of Transportation,

We support safer street and intersection designs as part of the Green Lake Area Paving & Multi-Modal Improvements Project. Green Lake Park and Woodland Park are North Seattle’s top destination for outdoor recreation, serving as a playground to the region. Thousands of adults and children come here to stroll, run, bike, swim, row, and play. It’s also home to a community center, library, and several preschools.

We are excited for the currently planned two-way protected bike lane along the park on East Green Lake Drive and Way, and intersection improvements at the north end of Green Lake and near the Pitch & Putt at the south end. Improvements need to be made at the intersection with Ravenna Boulevard, along the Woodland Park Lower Playfields, and at the intersection with N 50th Street and Stone Way. In addition, the overall speed, both as posted and as designed, should be 20 mph along Green Lake Park and Woodland Park.

Our top two requests are squaring-up the Ravenna Boulevard intersection and creating a protected bike crossing at the N 50th Street intersection. These improvements will ensure people can safely and comfortably walk and bike to and from the parks. In addition, the improvement to the N 50th intersection could help save the city money by not having to signalize an additional intersection and would enable the ability to put a two-way protected bike lanes on N 50th Avenue and through the Woodland Park Lower Playfields Parking Lot. These improvements are illustrated at

We have volunteer activities such as reaching out to businesses, talking with people at the farmers market and parks, illustrating/designing artwork, and so forth. And if you're passionate about some other street or park issue, such as a getting a speed hump or crosswalk installed near your house or school, we'd love to work with you on that too.
