NCTSA Judge ExpectationsJudging NCTSA competitive events is a meaningful and impactful experience. Students, teachers, and the entire conference community depend on your support, and we deeply appreciate the dedication you bring to this role.
As a judge, you will:- Sign up in advance using this form
- Watch the judge orientation video prior to the event
- Review the event guidelines and rubric.
- Review projects, videos, and/or interview students (if applicable).
- Score submissions using the rubric.
- Provide thoughtful feedback for each submission.
On-Site Judging at the ConferenceYou will receive an email with your event assignment, competition rules, and the orientation video. On the day of the event, please arrive 30 minutes early and check in at conference headquarters. Allow approximately four hours for judging. If possible,
please bring a personal laptop to streamline the process.
Additional Guidelines- If your availability changes, please notify us as soon as possible—your communication helps us plan effectively.
- Keep in mind that some students may be as young as 6th grade. Your patience, encouragement, and supportive questions mean more than you know.
- Give each entry your full attention. Students have invested months of hard work and are excited for the chance to share it with you.
- Dress professionally (business casual recommended) and avoid personal distractions such as calls or texts during judging.
- Please do not bring minor children who would require supervision.
- If any issues arise, let NCTSA staff know immediately—we are here to support you.
