The RISE (Re-invest in Supportive Environments) Youth Leader Advocacy Network is for youth and
young adults ages 14 to 24 who have been directly impacted by suspension or expulsion from school,
school-based arrests, or the legal system. Youth who are not directly impacted by these
experiences but are dedicated to helping improve the education and youth legal systems are also
encouraged to apply.
The RISE Youth Leader Advocacy Network (YLAN) meets three times each
month for two hours on the first three Wednesdays. YLAN also meets on the fourth Saturday of each month for a team building outing. These meeting dates may change as the needs of YLAN members and RISE staff members
schedules may require. All YLAN Members and volunteers will be notified of any changes to the
meeting schedule.
The central goal of the RISE Youth Leader Advocacy Network is to amplify the
voices of young people in creating policies that directly impact youth and young adults in school
and in the legal arenas, provide leadership training and opportunities to YLAN members, and along with
YLAN members, create a healthy ecosystem that is mirrored in every environment YLAN members
are a part of.
All members have the opportunity to earn a $25 stipend for their
participation each week. Members who attend ALL THREE weekly meetings and earn their full stipend will receive an extra $25 stipend for the third meeting totaling $50 for the third meeting. Receipt of the full stipend each week is dependent
upon meeting the following criteria:
1.
Attendance (At least 75% of the two hour meeting time) $5
2.
Participation (Active engagement in each meeting) $10
3.
Respect (Giving respect to every other attendee) $10
RISE staff will
determine if each member has met the criteria during each meeting.
Members will
also receive stipends to attend local, state, and national conferences focused
on improving the education and legal systems.
