The 2020 RFK Urban Education Awards
Each year, Schools That Can (STC) and Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights join forces to publicly recognize leaders from STC's diverse national network of urban schools. Specifically, the RFK Urban Education Awards celebrate inspirational students, teachers, and school leaders who have demonstrated the virtues and qualities for which the late Robert F. Kennedy stood - courage, overcoming adversity, social justice, and a strong moral compass.
From now until the end of March, we will be accepting nominations for the 7th Annual Awards. During April, STC will review all nominations and send the 3 nominations with the most votes to RFK Human Rights for the final decision. The Awards will be presented on May 20th during a special awards ceremony at STC's Annual National Forum in New York (
This year's awards will honor individuals who have embodied the following quote from Robert F. Kennedy:
“This world demands the qualities of youth; not a time of life but a state of mind, a temper of the will, a quality of the imagination, a predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the life of ease.”
What student, teacher (including all faculty who work with students), or school leader (Principal, Head of School, School or Executive Director, etc.) embodies this quote for you? How has she demonstrated youthful imagination and courage? How has he fought to create change in his community?
Once you've thought through these questions, complete the nomination form on the following pages. Please share specific anecdotes that help readers connect the nominee's story to RFK's words.
You may nominate yourself or someone else, and you may nominate multiple people if you wish, too.
