1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will experience child sexual abuse (CSA) before their 18th birthday, yet only 1 in 10 report their abuse in childhood and receive help at that time. In addition to underscoring the need for vital prevention and intervention services for child victims and their families, WINGS Foundation Inc. (WINGS), and their many valued partners, call upon leaders to recognize the urgent and ongoing need for specialized information and direct services designed to support the 9 in 10, or 90%, of childhood sexual abuse victims who did not report in childhood—CSA Survivors. Colorado has been undertaking a community needs assessment called the One Voice Project, aimed at identifying areas of strength and opportunities for improving services for this population. Phase 1 of the assessment included hearing directly from the voices of CSA survivors; Phase 2 included learning about current services offered to this population from a wide array of providers. WINGS will be sharing initial findings from the One Voice Project at a number of Statewide Listening Sessions / Town Halls with professionals, community members and especially CSA survivors and their loved ones - to review the data together and to hear what questions, suggestions and insights Colorado citizens have about this important topic. WINGS will be working to input these ideas into a Childhood Sexual Abuse Survivors (CSAS) Systems Improvement Project for the State of Colorado. YOUR VOICE is needed. Be part of this pioneering effort!
