The Foo Clan will be organising a talk and the co-organisers are the Hwa Chong Alumni Association and the Hainan Business Club. The talk will be on the topic “Mobile Transformation of the Future” on 13 Feb 2016 from 14:30 to 17:00 at the Exhibition Centre @ the Hwa Chong Cultural Centre (next to the Hwa Chong swimming pool).

The keynote speaker will be Foo Jixun of GGV Capital who will speak on the topic "Mobile Transformation of the Future" (This keynote address will be in Chinese).

Description of the Speakers
Foo Jixun – Keynote Speaker and Panel Speaker
Foo Jixun graduated from National University of Singapore with First-Class Honors degree in Engineering and received a M.Sc. in Management of Technology from the University's Graduate School of Business.
Foo Jixun was a Director of Draper Fisher Jurvetson ePlanet Ventures where he led investment efforts in Asia such as Baidu (NASDAQ:BIDU) and Longcheer (SGX:L28). Jixun is a Managing Partner at GGV Capital and joined the firm in 2005. With $2.6 billion under management across six funds, GGV Capital has been successfully partnering with leading technology entrepreneurs in the US and China for more than fifteen years.
Foo Jixun has more than 15 years’ experience in venture capital investing and working with entrepreneurs. Jixun focuses on the internet and mobile technology sectors and currently serves on the board of directors for Youku-Tudou (NYSE:YOKU) and Qunar (NASDAQ: QUNR).
Foo Jixun ranked 35th on The Forbes Midas List in 2015, has been annually awarded one of “Best Venture Capitalists” by Forbes China since 2006. In 2014 he was named "VC Professional of the Year" by the Asia Venture Capital Journal. In 2015, Jixun was invited to attend the World Economic Forum in Dalian and the 2nd World Internet Conference in Wuzhen, China.
Dr Foo Say Wei - Panel Speaker
Dr Foo Say Wei was awarded the prestigious President’s scholarship to study electrical engineering in Australia and was awarded a Bachelor degree in electrical engineering (First class honours with university medal) in 1972. He also holds a M.Sc. degree in Industrial and System Engineering from the now National University of Singapore，a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Imperial College, University of London, a postgraduate diploma in Business Administration and a certified diploma in Accountancy and Finance.
He has worked in the Defence Science Organisation before joining the National University of Singapore and then Nanyang Technological University as Associate Professor. In 2009, he was appointed as the Deputy Director of Nanyang Technopreneurship Center of NTU.
His research interests include signal processing and technology management. He has published over hundred journal and conference papers on various topics.
He is an advisor to Foo Clan Association and a committee member of Hainan Business Club.
符之玮博士于1967年荣获新加坡总统奖学金暨哥伦坡奖学金负笈澳洲攻读电机工程、1972年获颁第一等荣誉学位暨大学金章。1979 年获颁新加坡国家大学工业及系统工程学硕士学位。1983 年荣获英国帝国学院博士学位。毕业后，他在国防科学组织工作多年。从 1992 年到 2001 年，他被任命为新加坡国家大学副教授，专注于技术管理和产品开发的研究。在 2002 年，他加入南洋理工大学的电气和电子工程学院。2009 年，他受委任为南洋科技创业中心副主任。
他的研究兴趣包括语音信号处理、 音乐信号处理、 生物医学信号处理和技术管理。他发表超过百篇期刊和会议论文。
Tan Yinglan - Panel Speaker
Tan Yinglan is Venture Partner at Sequoia Capital India, based in Singapore. Prior to joining Sequoia Capital India, Tan Yinglan was the Head (Projects), National Research Foundation, Prime Minister’s Office (Singapore). He oversaw the National Framework for Innovation and Enterprise and was responsible for the investments of high-tech growth ventures and venture capital funds and serves as board member / observer of selected high-tech ventures and early stage venture funds. He was responsible for launching the Technological Incubation Scheme (TIS) and the Global Entrepreneur Executives (GEE) Fund. Tan Yinglan had previously been the founding Director of 3i Venturelab China, a joint-venture between private equity firm 3i (LSE:III) and INSEAD. He had also been the Senior Assistant Director at the Ministry of Trade and Industry (Singapore), where he was the deskhead for Economic Development Board Investments portfolio. Yinglan had been at the Ministry of Defence (Singapore) where he was the recipient of the National Innovation and Quality Circle Award. Yinglan was also the Special Assistant to the Chief Economic Advisor of the World Bank, as a Milton and Cynthia Friedman Fellow. During graduate school at Stanford, he had co-founded, raised angel funding and sold an online dating startup (which is still featured as a case study in Stanford).
Yinglan is honored by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader 2012 and is a World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council member for Fostering Entrepreneurship. Yinglan has been named as one of 100 Leaders of Tomorrow by the St Gallen Symposium in 2010, 100 Global Thinkers 2011 by Lo Spazio della Politica, a Leader of the Next Generation at the Symposium for Leaders of the Next Generation (STARS) in 2011. In 2010, Yinglan was also named as a Kauffman Fellow, a fellowship which identifies, develops, and networks the next generation of global leaders in the venture capital industry. Yinglan was also named Outstanding Youth of China Synergy Program (2007) and Dragon100 Young Chinese Leader (2006).
Yinglan is the author of The Way Of the VC: Having Top Venture Capitalists On Your Board.(Wiley, 2009) and Chinnovation – How Chinese Innovators are Changing the World (Wiley 2010) and New Venture Creation – Entrepreneurship for the 21st Century – An Asian Perspective (Mcgraw Hill 2011). His book, The Way Of The VC, is used as a teaching text at various business schools and selected by Forbes columnist Marc Kramer as amongst the World’s Best Business Books. Chinnovation has been ranked #1 bestseller on Amazon.com in the Business & Management (International) category.
Yinglan is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Nanyang Technological Universityand teaches the Masters program in Technopreneurship & Innovation (Chinese). He has also taught at the UC Berkeley-Nanyang Advanced Management Programme, NTU- Tsinghua Executive Programme and at the Advanced Management Programme at Singapore Management University and guest lectures at Fudan and Tsinghua University. He has conducted customized executive programs for executives in Apple, Cisco, Haier, Tencent, Nokia Siemens, 3i, UBS, Metersbonwe, the World Bank and for senior government officials in China, Switzerland, Denmark, Finland, Armenia, Brunei, Lebanon, Singapore, Laos, Philippines, Sri Lanka, South Africa and Nepal on topics on innovation and venture capital. He is an international advisor to President of the Innovation Ecosystem (Romania) of the National Council for Research and Innovation, serves on the international judging panel for Startup Chile and is a mentor at Startup Weekend.
He is a frequently invited speaker at innovation and enterprise conferences around the world, including the World Economic Forum Global Council Meetings, AVCJ International Venture Conference, Future China Global Forum, Dow Jones – Stanford – SHVCA Conference on Corporate Venturing, Stanford’s Triple Helix Conference, PanIIT Asia Pac Conference and Echelon. Yinglan has been featured on CNBC, CCTV, China Daily, Dragon TV, Nature, The Nation, The Deal, Business Lines (India). Korean Times, Business FM 89.9 (Malaysian), Business Times (Singapore), The Edge (Singapore), SINA, China Economic Review, Shanghai Media Group and Innovation Management.
At Carnegie Mellon University, Yinglan finished two Bachelor Degrees, a BS(ECE) and a BS(Econ), in 3 yrs and graduated top in his class, as the William L. Everitt scholar. He also received a Masters in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University. A Certified Risk Analyst, Yinglan also completed post-graduate work at Harvard Business School and Harvard Kennedy School (under the WEF Young Global Leaders Executive Education program) and coursework for a Ph.D at Harvard University as a JFK Fellow. Yinglan has a wife and two kids, which his life revolves around. In his spare time, he is a Director at Rotary Club Pandan Valley (Singapore) and is a Paul Harris Fellow.

Joel Teo – Panel Speaker
Joel specialises in equity capital markets, corporate and M&A transactions, investment funds and private equity. He is active in the Private Equity and Venture Capital sector and provides pro bono help to start-up companies.
Joel is the external legal advisor to the National Research Foundation, which is a division of the Singapore Prime Minister’s Office which funds research and development in Singapore and build the Singapore startup eco-system.
Joel graduated with a LLB (Hons) degree from the National University of Singapore in 2005. He was called to the Singapore Bar in 2006 and joined Lee & Lee in the same year. He also holds a LLM (Merit) (specialisation in Corporate/Commercial Law) from the University of London (Queen Mary) and a MBA (specialisation in Finance) from the National University of Singapore.
Joel is the firm’s representative to the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the head of membership of the Hwa Chong Alumni Association, the committee member of the Singapore Zhang Clan General Association, a board member of the World Zhang Clan Association and the general secretary of the London Club (Singapore) which is the alumni association for the University of London International progammes in Singapore.

Foo Clan Association
Founded in 1887 by Foo Ji Gui, who generously donated the plot of land & premise as common lodge at 52 Middle Road for those migrants of Foo descendants from China/Hainan during Qing dynasty. Spring & Autumn ancestral prayers are the 2 important annual functions to maintain the ritual & traditions of mutual assistance.
For 128 years, Foo Clan Association (FCA) has gone through total transformation from a small Clan of mutual-aid & ritual purpose of less than one thousand members to become a revitalised Clan of accepting many Youth Group’s ideas to modernise and organise social activities. Such activities of different social nature bond young and new members together with matured & elder members so as to maintain our “义阳精神Yi Yang Brotherly – Besides helping those needy members financially, the Spirit” of helping one another extended to bursary awards & financial assistance benefiting needy members and their children in studies.

Description of the Co-Organisers
The Hwa Chong Alumni Association
The Hwa Chong Alumni Association ("HCAA") is the largest and oldest alumni association for Hwa Chong Alumni and was founded in 1923, five years after the founding of the The Chinese High School (on March 21, 1919). Today following the merger of the Chinese High School and Hwa Chong Junior College into Hwa Chong Institution and the creation of the Hwa Chong International School, the HCAA has members from all the Hwa Chong schools. The HCAA organises many ongoing activities with some activities having over 100 participants in each class. This event is jointly organised by the Culture/Education Sub-Chapter of the HCAA.
The Hwa Chong Alumni has several outstanding serial entrepreneurs and venture capitalists including, but not limited to, Lim Der Shing who founded and sold Jobcentral.com, Dennis Goh who founded and sold Hungrygowhere.com, Forrest Li of Garena Online, Tan Yinglan of Sequoia, Royston Tay of Zopim. Our Alumni hopes to increase networking amongst the Hwa Chong Alumni to grow further blockbuster startups amongst the alumni.
