An Introduction to the Social Sciences
Join us for free taster sessions and a free 11 week course, at Tang Hall Community Centre

Taster sessions - Monday 4 March, 12.45 - 2.45pm and Monday 8 April, 12.45 - 2.45pm
Full 11 week course - Mondays 12.45 - 2.45pm starting on Monday 29 April

Are you interested in how society works and your place within it? This course will explore topics such as family life, culture, health and ageing to introduce you to the social sciences and what it can offer us in terms of understanding society.

Each week we will focus on a different topic, considering the complexities involved in understanding and addressing social issues. From the role of culture to the importance of socialisation we will journey through key social science topics to discover how social science impacts on our everyday lives.

How will this help me?
- An opportunity to engage in interesting subject areas that may encourage you to explore further.
- Engage in a social group of like-minded people, and two hours of ‘you time’ each week.
- A chance to find out what university-level study is all about.
- University credit available for those who wish to undertake assessment.
- Gain a University of York certificate for the full course which may help when applying for employment or looking to study at a higher level.
- Confidence in making a step into a fulfilling career

Spaces on the taster days and course are very limited, and we might not be able to offer places to everyone. You can apply for places on both taster days as they will cover different topics. We will give priority to those with no previous experience of higher education.
