Ask An Explorer Webinar
The ocean covers over 70% of Earth’s surface and plays a critical role in supporting life on our planet. Yet our understanding of the ocean remains limited, with most of the ocean still largely unexplored. Ocean exploration is about diving into the unknown, following your curiosity, making discoveries, and searching for things that are unusual and unexpected. Explorers must overcome many challenges to explore the most remote and deepest parts of the ocean, including crushing pressures, freezing cold temperatures, and complete darkness just to name a few! Overcoming each of these challenges requires creativity, innovation, determination, and perhaps most importantly, collaboration!

Register now and join us on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2024 at 5:00 pm Eastern to hear from experts at NOAA Ocean Exploration, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and Ocean Exploration Trust as they share their stories about the greatest challenges they have faced while exploring the ocean and the technologies or strategies they are using to overcome them.

The webinar will feature experts from three major challenge areas in ocean exploration including:
  • Exploring DEEP waters - how do explorers overcome high pressure, cold temperatures, and no light?
  • DATA - how do explorers maximize the data they can collect, analyze large volumes of data, and share discoveries?
  • ACCESSIBILITY - what technologies are helping increase the accessibility of ocean exploration?
Experts will pause after each section of the webinar to answer audience questions about their subject area. There will be a final, general Q&A at the end of the event to answer additional questions. Questions may be submitted ahead of time in this registration form or in the chat during the live event.

We will get to as many questions as we can during the event and share some exciting additional opportunities for students to ask experts their most burning questions!

This webinar is targeted at students in grades 4 - 8, but all are welcome to tune in and learn about the challenges of exploring the unknown ocean and the innovative tools and technologies being developed to overcome them.

Please fill out this short form to confirm your registration.

The event will be recorded and posted afterwards for those that are unable to tune in live.
