Be a part of our second ever "Summer Symposium!” Let's gather creative and learning and organizing communities / people / orgs / projects from around the bay (and beyond) for a long weekend of readings, talks, workshops, panels, performances, screenings and (of course) parties—to celebrate and share and learn and grow and think together!

Events will take place at Bathers Library and other venues around the bay (probably mostly in the East Bay but we’ll see what people are interested in doing!).
There are a couple ways (see below)! Even if you're not in the Bay, I have some ideas how we could incorporate your work/presence (just indicate where you're at below and I'll reach out).

HOW TO GET INVOLVED W/SUMMER SYMPOSIUM
First way: Propose a session!
Each session will be 1-2 hours long, and during that time, basically anything can happen. It could be two or three readers from your publication or an artist talk or panel of artists from your community. It could be a film screening or a dance performance—or… who knows! All kinds of things are welcome—art, ecology, technology, radical politics, music, poetry, etc! Think of this as a chance, hopefully, to share work and ideas that you’re interested in and to exchange a variety of practices and ways of thinking/doing/being with a larger community.
The only helpful guideline maybe would be that sessions should be framed by theme or topic. So, less like, “3 Local Poets” but more around the content or theme of their work. “3 Poets on Radical Ecology in California” or something like that. Hopefully the distinction makes sense. Having the sessions framed thematically will help to group them together (or juxtapose them) with other sessions. All accepted sessions will receive an honorarium for participating.
(You can definitely propose more than one thing! We'll prioritize including the most individual projects, but welcome deeper engagement if you have a lot going on!)
Second way: Propose a workshop!
Workshops will be hands-on—so some kind of skill-share or technique. Workshops will be up to 3 hours and can be limited to a smaller group. We can charge money for them, but maybe with some spaces for NOTAFLOF..
Third way: Host something!
If you have a space and would like to host an event or make your space available, that would be amazing! We hosted over 40 sessions, a dozen or so workshops, several performances and gatherings last year, and this year we'll hopefully add more to that (so we'll need all the space we can get!).
NOTE: We don’t have any outside funding for this project (or any project!), but we do want to compensate people for their time. Last year we were able to pay $250 per accepted session,* which can be divided up by the participants (readers, organizers, etcetera). For the Workshops, we’d do a pay-per-attendee model, so we can come up with those numbers as people begin to propose things.
