Who said the art of ancient Greek culture did not inspire great modern artists like Takis!
What
was it that captivated and sparked the imagination of the creator of
the unique Cycladic figurines and presents us with his own “Idols” and
“Flower Idols”?
When we ask children, what sculpture is, the first
thing that comes to mind is the marble sculptures – statues as they say
– of the ancient Greek culture. They imagine the dusty workshop and the
sculptor standing in front of a shapeless mass of stone carving with
his improvised tools the white hard surface.
But what are the tools of the modern Takis sculptor? And what are the materials ?
Are they similar to those of the Early Bronze Age or are they different?
How
does he manage to combine the harmony and austerity of antiquity with
the abstract sculpture of the 20th century? And the antennas? What is
their purpose?
The schoolchildren will tour a special contemporary
art museum space that once housed Takis’ home and studio. They visit
the specially modified museum space – the Takis Studio – and observe the
creator’s “Idols” and “Flower Idols”, compare them with those of the
Cycladic Culture, get to know the artist’s tools, as well as the special
industrial materials and play role-playing games and movement based on
the sculptural geometric forms of the idols.
Having gained
important information and knowledge about the life and artistic work of
the genius artist Takis, the children are then challenged to solve
riddles, puzzles and express themselves creatively in printed material
that will be offered to them.
