Roald Dahl's WILLY WONKA JUNIOR follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whomever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats, but the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka's rules in the factory — or suffer the consequences.

Each performer and production team member will be asked to abide by rules of Desert Stages Theatre
Masks or ghost shields may be required during rehearsals and performances.
Weekly PCR Covid-19 tests may be required from all cast/crew members

Show communications will be through SLACK

Willy Wonka/Candy Man - Willy Wonka is an enigmatic and colorful character; at once mysterious and mischievous but also charismatic. The actor should be able to be funny and serious and change between the two on a dime. Wonka may double as the Candy Man, to help reinforce that Wonka has staged the Golden Ticket competition and is somewhat controlling this contest along the way. Looking for a fantastic actor and singer. Gender: Any; Vocal range top: F5; Vocal range bottom: G3

Charlie Bucket - Charlie Bucket is the emotional heart and soul of the musical. Charlie should have lots of pluck and enthusiasm. Charlie is in nearly every scene and sings a lot. Looking for a great singer and excellent actor. Gender: Male: Vocal range top: F5; Vocal range bottom: A3

Grandpa Joe - Grandpa Joe is the grandfather we all wish we had when we were Charlie's age. He is caring, funny, patient, sweet, and always reminds Charlie to look on the bright side. Mr. Bucket - Mr. Bucket is Charlie’s dirt-poor father. Though down in the dumps, cares deeply for his family. Looking for a singer and actor with nice voice and is a natural nurturer. Gender: Male; Vocal range top: C#5; Vocal range bottom: D4

Mrs. Bucket - Mrs. Bucket is Charlie’s dirt-poor mother. She deeply cares for her family and is doing her best to take care of everyone. Looking for a singer and actress with nice voice and is a natural nurturer. Gender: Female; Vocal range top: Db5; Vocal range bottom: Bb3

The Candy Man Kids - These are Charlie’s classmates who love candy just as much as any other kid. They go through the school day waiting for the time they get to see the Candy Man and later try to find the Golden Ticket! Looking for singers and creative actors and actresses. Gender: Any

Grandpa George - One of Charlie's three grandparents who are confined to their bed. Looking for an innately interesting character actor, who has good comic timing. Gender: Male

Grandma Georgina - One of Charlie's three grandparents who are confined to their bed. Looking for an innately interesting character actress, who has good comic timing. Gender: Female

Grandma Josephina - One of Charlie's three grandparents who are confined to their bed. Looking for an innately interesting character actress, who has good comic timing. Gender: Female

Phineous Trout - Phineous is the TV personality who announces the winners of the Golden Ticket contest throughout the show. Phineous is very charismatic and sometimes joins in with the winners as they sing. Looking for a singer and actor/actress with a great announcer's voice. Oompa-Loompa Chorus - The Oompa-Loompas are from Loompaland, a thick jungle infested by hornswogglers and snozzywangers, and those terrible wicked whangdoodles. Loyal to Wonka and the factory, they are hard workers always ready with a song and lesson when a child misbehaves. Looking for singers who can move. Mrs. Gloop - Mrs. Gloop is Augustus' mother who has overindulged her son with food. She accompanies Augustus on the tour of the factory. Looking for a great character actress who can sing. German accent is a plus! Gender: Female; Vocal range top: E5; Vocal range bottom: B3

Mrs. Beauregarde - Mrs. Beauregard is a teacher of geography and has invested a great deal of hard-earned money on therapy for her gum-chewing daughter, with less than stellar results. Mr. Salt - Mr. Salt's solution to most problems is to buy his way out. He is upper class and is a total pushover when it comes to his daughter Veruca, often spoiling her rotten with whatever she desires. Looking for a character actor, a British accent is a plus! Violet Beauregarde - Gum chewer extraordinaire, Violet hails from Snellville, Georgia. Violet is a blue-collar, middle-class, big-mouthed brat. Looking for a strong singer with a big voice. Southern accent is a plus! Gender: Female; Vocal range top: G5; Vocal range bottom: G3

Mike Teavee - Mike is not just a TV junky. He is also addicted to video games, the Internet, and any other mind-numbing technological device. James - James is Charlie's friend from school. Has an affinity towards peaches and has a great sense of adventure. Looking for a singer and actor. Gender: Male; Vocal range top: F#4; Vocal range bottom: A3

Chorus of Cooks - The Cooks appear during "I Eat More!" presenting Augustus with a smorgasbord of food choices. Looking for creative actors/actress who can move well. Gender: Any

Augustus Gloop - Augustus is the overachieving eater. He loves all kinds of food, especially chocolate. Looking for a singer and strong actor with great comedic timing. German accent is a plus! Gender: Male; Vocal range top: G5; Vocal range bottom: B3

Ms. Teavee - Ms. Teavee is a take on the quintessential 50’s television mom. She's perfectly put together and a bit vacant. Looking for a singer and actress with good comedic timing. Gender: Female; Vocal range top: F5; Vocal range bottom: B3

Veruca Salt - Veruca is wealthy, class-conscious, and completely spoiled young lady, and knows it. Looking for a strong actor and singer with a big voice. A British accent is a plus! Gender: Female; Vocal range top: E5; Vocal range bottom: A3

Matilda - Matilda is also a schoolmate of Charlie's, but she's a bit of bully. She really likes books and has taken a liking to Ms. Honeys reading class. Looking for a singer and actress. Gender: Female; Vocal range top: B4; Vocal range bottom: C#4

Squirrels - A hard-working group who sorts the good nuts from the bad nuts in Willy Wonka’s factory. They do not seem to like Veruca very much… Gender: Any
