CAST Visiting Artists in the Classroom Application
Initially launched to support MIT’s remote teaching as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Center for Art, Science & Technology (CAST) will once again offer a lightning round of micro-grants to support Visiting Artists in the Classroom. Each micro-grant provides a $250 honorarium per visit for instructors to invite practicing artists to participate as guest speakers in classes.

In order to maintain the number and range of artists visits offered by this program during remote teaching, CAST will continue to encourage virtual visits if the proper technology is available in the classroom. Faculty are welcome to invite artists to visit their classes virtually or in person, but travel and accommodations for in-person visits must be covered by other funding sources.

Applicants may apply for up to two micro-grants of $250 each (which can be one or two artists, or one or two course subjects, whichever is preferred). Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis through November 1, 2022. You do not need to have confirmed the date and time of the artist's visit in order to submit an application.

The host department, lab, or center is responsible for processing honorarium payment(s), securing COVID access for visitor(s) to campus, and ensuring compliance with all MIT COVID policies for visitors (see now.mit.edu/policies/campus-visitor-policy/). CAST will work with your department financial administrator to transfer the CAST funds to the appropriate account.

Recipients will be asked to submit a brief report to CAST at the end of the term. If you have any questions, please email castgrants@mit.edu
