Additional Information: The Michigan Disability Rights Coalition will provide financial assistance for travel, time, personal assistants, and child care in creating an accessible experience for participants during the cohort experience. MDRC will also accommodate the communication needs (example: interpretation and translation services, etc.) of participants and any other accessibility requests made by participants.

Note: MDRC recognizes that transportation can be a barrier to people with disabilities attending events in person. If transportation is a barrier, don't let that stop you from applying. These issues and the assistance we can offer will be discussed upon acceptance into the program.

  • Statement on Social Justice:
As the goal of the LEAD program is to connect parents to leadership and/or employment opportunities in the community, we are required to perform background checks.

MDRC supports employees engaged in social justice issues.  Background checks may produce reports of felony and misdemeanor convictions of applicants, volunteers, or employees. Some of those convictions may be those MDRC considers being social justice issues. Other convictions may be for things that happened a long time ago or are not a threat to our employees, youth, or vulnerable adults. MDRC supports employees engaged in social justice issues and will consider both the type and relevance of the actions that led to any arrests or convictions.

MDRC acknowledges the existence of ableism, racism, homophobia, and other discrimination, and these issues shall be examined in reviewing individual reports. When MDRC receives information about an employee or candidate raising concerns, experts may be called in when necessary, including the MDRC’s attorney and/or social justice advocates with special knowledge, sensitivity, and experience with similar issues.

MDRC also acknowledges while the background investigations may reduce the liability to people we serve or interact with, especially youth, vulnerable adults and our employees, we are not necessarily safer because of the background investigations. Technology and state-to-state tracking of convictions are not reliable.

Therefore, MDRC will consider both the type and relevance of the actions that led to any arrests or convictions.
