Buy vs. build for web features
Gone are the times when building a web application meant building everything ourselves. Error monitoring, authentication, and even full features like live video chat can be bought instead of built. These web features can just be popped into the frontend code without having to set up additional backends or databases. But we still write a lot of this code ourselves. Why?
Which features have you bought for web apps already? (please separate multiple names with commas or write "None")
Why did you buy instead of building in that specific case?
To release earlier
To save developer resources
To get ongoing support
I did not buy anything yet
Please think about a situation where you built a new feature in house instead of buying it. What was it?
Why did you decide against buying it?
Didn't check whether I could have bought it
Could not find anything to buy
It was too cumbersome to try out the available options
None of the options I found fullfilled all my requirements
Could not get the budget approved
Which frontend framework do you mainly use?
I don't do frontend
Anything else you want to share?
