History is More Than Words! Free Educator Workshop

Photographs provide an accessible, high impact entry point for all students— including English Language Learners (ELL) and those with reading challenges. Led by Sharon Gillette of National History Day®, this hands-on workshop will show you how to turn historical images into powerful tools for critical thinking.

Discover: Locate and navigate the Library of Congress photograph collections, including Connecticut-focused sources.

Analyze: Master the Library’s official Primary Source Analysis Tool.

Transform: Teach students to use photographs as rigorous evidence, not just illustrations.

Build: Guide students in constructing historical arguments using visual data. Equip: Walk away with classroom-ready resources developed by National History Day.
