VOLUNTEER WITH US + GET A FREE SHIRT! :-)
WHAT WOULD VOLUNTEERS DO? Service Learning Project/Park Service Day Clean – Up: Throughout the day, volunteers will break off in teams of two to keep the park pristinely presentable and wonderfully hygienic. They shall, for the day, show extreme acts of love for the park, the community and Youth Speaks through clearing walkways of obstructing waste and picking up litter. Volunteers need to come prepared with work clothes, gloves if they have them, and comfortable shoes. We’re doing a cleanup and organization of the park areas, including emptying recycling bins, and taking down signage. Life is Living : General Volunteers: Throughout the day, volunteers will assist with loading in equipment and supplies, setting up stages and staging areas. This includes: Putting up signs and maps for the public. Setting up tenting. Staffing tables. Event Volunteers will also assist with cleaning the park throughout the day. General Runners. Load out of equipment and supplies, breaking down stages, taking down signs and banners, and assisting as monitors for the vendor areas of the park. Generally this is a physical job, although there are opportunities for mobility impaired (tabling and stationary duties).
Life is Living: Kid Zone Volunteers:Throughout the day, these specific volunteers will be working directly with the Kid Zone at Life is Living. The Kid Zone aims to “create a magical labryinth for the children, hostessing bunnies, silk screening, book nook and tea party.” If you’re experienced and/or interested in working with kids then this might be a great fit.

WHAT IS “LIFE IS LIVING?”LIFE is LIVING establishes a new model for partnerships between diverse and under-resourced communities, green action agencies, and the contemporary arts world. Since 2008, under the artistic direction of Marc Bamuthi Joseph, LIFE is LIVING has grown from a festival that uses art to foster environmental justice to a mobilized campaign much larger in scope. Highly successful LIFE is LIVING events have taken place in Harlem, Chicago, Houston, and Oakland, with further work proposed for Philadelphia, San Francisco, and the Twin Cities. The campaign includes a traveling environmental caucus & concert, an invitational Graffiti Battle, live action sports, sustainable materials construction projects, and a Speak Green youth poetry event. As we reflect the voices of an emerging cultural majority, we recognize that our arts practices must echo and sustain the lives of the communities we engage.
