As educators, as union members, and as social justice advocates, the Oakland Education Association is working in collaboration with the Centro Legal de la Raza to support our most vulnerable families.
While the Trump administration is bailing out banks, corporations, and tech companies, little relief is getting to workers and there is nothing for those without legal status. Undocumented immigrant workers who have lost jobs due to Covid-19 do not have access to unemployment insurance, public benefits, and the other relief efforts that form a social safety net for citizens. Workers and their families are in crisis.
Our families stood by us in the 2019 strike, and we must stand with them. Join other equity-focused educators and pledge to give all or part of the stimulus check you receive to Centro de la Raza's Oakland Undocumented Relief Fund. If 1,500 educators (half of our union membership) pledge to give at least $120 or 10% of their stimulus check, we can raise $180,000!
*How will funds be distributed?*
- OUR Fund is distributing relief payments of $500 to families who have lost income due to Covid-19 and who apply through their website.
- Payments are being distributed via check, pre-paid debit cards, or electronic funds transfers and will be available to people who don't have mailing addresses.
- 100% of individual donations go straight to the families.
