Robotics Informational Meeting Sign Up
Robotics is the official course designation for Iron Claw, the LGHS robotics team. While students earn course credit, the program functions as a competitive team rather than a traditional class. Working alongside adult community mentors and faculty, students compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition, where they have just eight weeks to design and build a human-sized robot from scratch. Through this intensive process, members develop technical skills in programming, machining, CAD, and electrical work; business expertise in marketing and budgeting; and essential life skills like leadership and project management. Participation requires a significant commitment to after-school and weekend sessions. While there are no formal prerequisites, serious applicants must demonstrate self-discipline and hard work. Before applying, students should thoroughly review the Iron Claw Team Handbook and the official team website to understand the team's operations. For those seeking a more traditional, project-based engineering curriculum, the school's formal engineering courses are recommended.
