한인연합감리교회는 지난 10월에 로스앤젤레스에서 열린 총회에서 세계선교부와 선교 협약을 맺고 세계선교부에서 파송한 140명의 선교사님을 후원하는 거룩한 약정을 지켜나가기로 다짐했습니다. 이 사역은 140년 전 조선에 복음의 씨앗을 전해준 아펜젤러 선교사님을 비롯한 많은 선교사님에게 진 선교의 빚을 갚는 기회가 될 것이며, 한인 공동체가 선교를 통해 하나 되어 전 세계에 복음을 전하고, 하나님의 사랑을 나누는 사명을 실천하는 일이 될 것입니다. 또한 세계선교부에서 파송한 선교사님들을 재정적으로 후원하므로 세계선교부와의 협력을 강화하며 선교 파트너십을 확장하는 계기가 될 것입니다. 각 교회와 성도님들께서 기도와 재정적인 후원을 통해 이 약정에 동참해 주시기를 간곡히 부탁드립니다. 작은 헌신이 모여 하나님의 크신 역사를 이루게 될 줄 믿습니다.
I am pleased to share with you that, during the
Annual Conference held this past October in Los Angeles, our Korean United
Methodist Church reaffirmed its commitment to global mission through a
partnership with the General
Board of Global Ministries. In this partnership, we have pledged to
support 140 missionaries who have been sent to various parts of
the world through the Board’s mission efforts. This commitment is especially
significant as it marks a continuation of the legacy of missionaries who, over
140 years ago, brought the message of the Gospel to Korea (Cho-Sun). Among them
was Henry Gerhard
Appenzeller, whose faithful service laid the
foundation for the flourishing of the church in Korea. This new chapter in our
mission engagement is a response to the debt of gratitude we owe to these
faithful servants of God, and it offers us the opportunity to carry forward the
mission of Christ, both locally and globally. I firmly believe that even small
acts of faithfulness, when combined, will result in a great outpouring of God's
grace and power in the world.
