"Second Shift" after-school programming began in November and will run through May. A variety of clubs and activities that complement the curriculum will be offered daily, with the bulk of programming and bus transportation running Monday through Wednesday. All activities will run until 4:30.
This form is to obtain parent/guardian consent for a student to participate in school-sponsored tutoring, clubs, and activities at Owen Middle School. Parents/guardians must consent to the activities in which their student participates. Students are required to have permission prior to attending any after-school activity.
Below is a list of after-school opportunities, a brief description, and the day of the week on which they are scheduled.
Academic Skills/Study Hall- Tuesdays Students will have the opportunity to complete missing assignments and/or work on academic skills such as goal setting, organization, and time management.
Active Stuff Sports Club- Mondays Learn outdoor games and activities, connect with other Warcolts, and have fun after school, improving hand-eye coordination.
Battle of the Books-Wednesday Promote literacy by inspiring students to read, engage in book discussions, and participate in inter-school competitions.
Cooking Club- “The Secret Recipe”- Pop-ups Explore diverse cuisines, share cooking techniques, and promote healthy eating habits. Inspire creativity, encourage collaboration, and celebrate the joy of cooking through hands-on experiences.
Dark City Voices- Fridays by Audition Only To provide advanced, auditioned singers an opportunity to sing in a select, high-level ensemble. DCV will perform music not learned in class and will perform at various school and community events.
Dungeons and Dragons- Tuesdays Play live-action role-playing games to foster creative thinking, interpersonal connections, and problem-solving in a group.
Fuse Bead Club- Mondays Build community while participating in an inclusive activity that provides access points for students of all skill levels.
Global Arts-Wednesdays Provide students who have an interest in art with an opportunity to explore various art and craft forms while learning about and connecting with different cultures.
Hispanic/Latino Culture Club- Wednesdays Provide students from diverse backgrounds with a sense of community and networking opportunities related to Hispanic and Latino culture.
Intramural Sports- ”FunTastic Fridays”- Fridays Foster teamwork and accountability, understanding game rules and creating winning strategies, improving aerobic conditioning, and utilizing personal strengths to benefit the team.
Knit/Crochet-Wednesdays Provide students the opportunity to learn how to knit or crochet - this is an activity that can be calming for students. They can make hats or animals or whatever they want.
LEAF Songs for Peace- Thursdays (March 20-May 1) MelissaMcKinney, LEAF Program & Outreach Director will introduce students to local songwriters and musicians, Teso McDonald to inspire creativity. Students will write an original song, which they will perform at the LEAF Retreat on Saturday, May 10, 2025! They will also create a music video.
Lego Club- Mondays Inspire and develop children to think creatively, reason systematically and release their potential. Join us to have fun, make friends, and use your critical thinking skills.
Math Essentials-Mondays (all grades) Wednesdays (6th only) Help develop a concrete understanding of mathematics concepts and basic skills.
Math 1 Support-Tuesdays Help develop a concrete understanding of Math 1 concepts. (For students enrolled in Math 1 only)
Mathcounts- Tuesdays Enable Owen Middle students to participate in mathematics competitions at both the school and district levels.
Nature Arts-Tuesdays Provide students who have an interest in art with an opportunity to explore various art and craft forms while learning about and connecting with nature.
Photography Club- Mondays Enhance your photography skills and take your photos to the next level with valuable tips and techniques.
Running Club- Tuesdays Experience stress relief and improve your overall health in a supportive environment.
Soccer Club- Wednesdays Teach the fundamentals and basic skills of soccer. The program is open to anyone interested in soccer.
Science Club- Tuesdays Increase knowledge of science through self guided research and projects on topics of interest.
Sports Management Club-Home Game Thursdays Learn skills to ensure that all aspects of a sports organization run smoothly and efficiently. Students will facilitate the set-up and attend home games.
Theatre Club- Tuesdays This creative space fosters a love for drama, allowing members to develop their acting, directing, and technical skills.
Student Government(SGA)-Mondays Enhance student voice and input through the election of a representative group by homerooms.
Video Game Club- Mondays To provide students with an environment to develop digital teamwork skills while competing in video games.
Vision Club -Tuesdays Support students with short and long term goal setting and academic engagement.
Yearbook Club- Mondays Produce, sell, and distribute the 2024-2025 Yearbook. Students will gain experience in sales, photography, desktop publishing, and distribution systems.
Yoga Club- Tuesdays Practice yoga postures while learning how yoga can be used to manage stress, improve the mind-body connection, and increase strength and flexibility.
