Welcome to WMU Choirs! We look forward to making music with you! All students, regardless of major and prior music experience, are welcome in WMU Choirs! There's a place for YOU!
A placement hearing is required of all singers joining Amphion, Anima, and Chorale.
Those who wish to join Campus Choir can simply register for the course if you are a student (MUS2170) and arrive at the first rehearsal (Wed, Sept 9, 7:00pm). However, we encourage Campus Choir singers to also complete a placement hearing, if able! This helps us get to know you, and place you in the right voice part to give you the best possible musical experience.

PLACEMENT HEARING PROCEDURES:
1) Sign up for a Hearing time slot at the
link above.
2) During the Hearing, we will lead you through warm-ups and scales to establish your vocal range.
3) If you are interested in auditioning for University Chorale, prepare your voice part of To My Old Brown Earth found HERE. You will sing your voice part of the piece during your hearing (it does NOT need to be memorized). Then, you will sing the excerpt a second time, while Dr. Musgrove sings a different part in duet.
If you are only interested in joining Amphion (TTBB), Anima (SSAA), or Campus Choir (SATB) you do NOT have to prepare a piece, but are welcome to so. If you do not bring a prepared piece, you may be asked to sing a simple melody, such as Amazing Grace, My Country 'Tis of Thee, Happy Birthday, or other simple well-known melody. If you DO bring a prepared solo, be prepared to sing a cappella, as pianists are not always available. Please choose an excerpt of your song that is around one minute or less. Bring at least two copies of the sheet music (for yourself and the pianist). Art songs, arias, folk songs, and hymns are acceptable.
3) Finally, you will be asked to sight-sing a short melody, if able. Music-reading ability is not required for membership in WMU Choirs. If you do not read music, you will be asked to repeat a few simple melodies in various keys.
