Introduction to the Lafayette Tool Library

The Lafayette Tool Library is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing tools for home, yard, and auto maintenance to residents of Lafayette, Louisiana. We aim to empower the community by offering these tools for free, fostering a sense of self-sufficiency and community development.

Our mission is to provide the community with the tools they need to build a better Lafayette.

The majority of our current board is made up of women, queer, and/or disabled individuals. We and are open to applications from anyone with skills to share and will prioritize applications from residents of the Northside and coteries.

If you are interested in joining our board, please fill out this application.

Availability and Commitment

The Tool Library is currently operated by the Board and does not employ any staff. Because of that, the Board is regularly in communication about operational decisions via email and text message.

Additionally, Board Members are expected to:

  • Volunteer for at least one 3 hour shift per month, currently Saturday mornings but we hope to add more options soon. If this is a barrier because of a work schedule, please apply anyway and just note this in your statement below.

  • Participate in 1-2 subcommittees, which meet every 1-2 months, or more as needed for specific projects. Alternatively, board members may have specific assignments outside of subcommittee duties that best utilize their skills.

  • Attend board meetings once per quarter. Board meetings alternate between being in person and being held online.

  • Support 1-2 fundraisers per year. Board members are not obligated to personally donate money to the tool library as we do not want someone's financial situation to ever be a barrier to board participation.

Subcommittees are as follows:

  1. Outreach

  2. Fundraising and Grants

  3. Education and Workshops

  4. Expansion and Development

  5. Executive (elected)
