General Information The WSU Math Corps Super Saturdays program is a 10-week mathematics enrichment and mentoring program for former Math Corps students, currently in grades 7-12. The program, which this year will run from January 27th - April 21st , brings middle and high school students together with college students and mathematicians, to share in the teaching and learning of mathematics, in a university setting. The Super Saturdays program serves students who Math Corps participants who are currently in 7th or 8th grade. Students who are currently in the 9th grade serve as students and interns, and high school students in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade serve as paid Teaching Assistants (TA’s). The 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students receive instruction from University faculty and enjoy a variety of learning activities led by the college and high school students under the supervision of middle and high school teachers. The high school TA’s serve as role models and “big brothers” or “big sisters” for the younger kids and engage in their own learning as well studying both fundamental and advanced mathematics. Students accepted into the program receive: a light breakfast daily school supplies bus tickets, if needed access to WSU facilities such as libraries and computer labs Schedule: Students in the program are expected to attend on time and fully all program days listed below. The program will take place on the following Saturdays:-January 27-February 3-February 10-February 17-March 3-March 10-March 24-March 31-April 14-April 21 Camp Hours 9:30 am – 12:30 pm for 7th, 8th and 9th graders9:00 am – 12:45 pm 10th, 11th and 12th graders Registration & Orientation and TA training: Saturday, January 20th at 9:00 a.m. Closing Ceremonies: Wednesday, April 25th at 6:30 p.m.
Eligibility: Students are eligible if and only if they are in the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade in the 2017-2018 school year AND they have participated in a previous Math Corps summer/winter program.
High School Teaching Assistantships: Teaching Assistants (TA’s) are paid stipends ranging from $200 to $320. Tuition: Tuition is free for all students thanks to the support of Wayne State University and the generous contributions of foundations, corporations and individuals.
