Thank you for your interest in becoming a Home Base Shortstop! A Home Base Shortstop is anyone that is willing to open their home for a short amount of time (shortstop) to be able to help reunite a pet that has been found in their area with it's owner through the support of our Community & Pet Support team (CAPS.) With your help, pets will have a better chance of getting home quicker! Chances are, pets that have been found haven't wandered too far from home and rather than bringing them to the shelter miles away from their community, they'll be in a loving temporary home waiting to be reunited with ease (and less stress for the found pet).

As a Home Base Shortstop, you will be added to an on-call list with El Paso Animal Services and will be provided supplies, information, and resources if contacted. We will call on you if a pet is found in your area and the original finder is unable to care for the pet temporarily and will aid you in the pet-reunification process. If we are unable to find the owner, El Paso Animal Services will attempt to find a positive outcome for the found pet such as adoption, rescue, or transport.
