Repository of M&E Companies
The Machinery and Equipment (M&E) Industry and the Engineering Supporting Services Industries (ESS) are key contributors and enablers to the economic growth of Malaysia for the last 5 decades. They assume a strategic importance due to their cross cutting linkages with all economic segments - primary, manufacturing and services sectors. The M&E industry represents one of the most innovative sectors adopting all of the key technologies including electronics, robotics, materials and software integration.

The industries today are at the crossroads of economic development in Malaysia. No more are there, the voluminous demands of the local market to ensure the continuous high growth experienced before. Competition from within and from fast developing emerging economies in the global scenario, are forcing the local players in these industries to look for greener pastures worldwide. This has necessitated them to greatly enhance their technologies, productivity and quality to meet the stringent demands of the global export markets. Failure to do this will almost certainly result in the demise of many SMEs in these industries in the near future.

The Government, on its part has instituted and implemented many strategies, programs and action plans through related government agencies to assist SME players in the M&E and ESS Industries adapt to the global economic challenges. One of the initiatives under the Malaysia Productivity Blueprint instituted by the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) and spearheaded by the Machinery and Engineering Industries Federation (MEIF) for the M&E and ESS Industries, is the M&E Productivity Nexus (MEPN).

The MEPN, in its efforts to assist M&E and ESS players to venture into the global market, has started an initiative to compile a repository of companies in the M&E and ESS industries, who exhibit the capabilities to grow into regional or global players, as the future for these industries is in the export market. Identifying these companies will be the first step to grooming them to become world class players representing Malaysia’s capabilities in these fields. Malaysia envisions itself to become the regional hub for the production of high technology and specialized M&E and an Engineering Components and Services Supply Chain, ready to be a key contributor to the global supply chain.

In order to compile this repository, companies will have to provide details including profile, capabilities, specialties, facilities and most importantly quality standards adhered to companywide. This repository among other things will also be used by Government industrial promotional agencies such as MITI, MIDA and MATRADE, in their trade and investment missions abroad to highlight and showcase Malaysian capabilities in the M&E and ESS sectors to secure investments and outsourcing opportunities.
