CPS Red Card

Our system of discipline at CPS is progressive, meaning students should be given warnings and clear feedback to correct behavior that is unacceptable. Moreover, students should receive Whaler Tickets when we catch them doing the right thing. Part of teaching middle school is helping students understand appropriate and inappropriate behavior; to this end, all discipline delivered by staff members should be instructive. In other words, students should learn something from discipline that is administered. Red Cards are one tool - but not the only tool - to communicate feedback to students about their behavior. Please be sure to explain to students why they have been issued a Red Card; it should always be clear and known to the student. As always, parent communication is essential: if you feel the situation warrants contacting a student's parent, please do so directly.
Teachers are expected to use a system of classroom/team expectations and consequences with students before issuing a red card.
If you have any questions or concerns, please follow up with the assistant principal or principal in the office as soon as possible. Thank you for your help as we continue to educate the whole child, and support them to be the best they can be!
Please fill out one form for each student and each incident.
