Join AARP Virginia, Charlottesville Area Alliance, and other community and government partners for a Walk Audit Workshop facilitated by America Walks.

WHEN? ... Friday, June 7th, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm

WHAT? ... Workshop Outline:

  • 8:30 am: Coffee and Networking
  • 9:00 am: Morning Program - includes presentations covering existing initiatives and inclusive mobility, followed by a “Wheels in Motion” participatory walking/rolling experience
  • 12:45 pm: Lunch (provided by AARP Virginia)
  • 1:15 pm: Afternoon Program - includes a “Walkability Audit” and small-group discussions to develop recommendations for design improvements and grow a local advocacy movement for community change
  • 5:00 pm: Close and Happy Hour (optional)

WHY? ... Workshop Goals:

  1. Build the community’s capacity to conduct walkability and accessibility audits
  2. Expand and activate the existing local movement of grass-roots advocates and stakeholders
  3. Center equity (low-income families, people with disabilities, seniors, etc.) in research and recommendations
  4. Strengthen partnerships with City, County, and State, and ensure inclusive planning practices are used
  5. Generate ideas for improving pedestrian safety, comfort, and first/last mile connections to transit
  6. Establish a foundation for future engagement
