Soda Firing Assistance Work Exchange
The Soda Firing Assistance position is for an eager potter looking for hands-on experience with firing a soda kiln!

The Ask:
4 hrs per week of hands-on firing assistance. The specific days could vary weekly, but are generally Wednesdays. Assisting with the firing can include mixing the soda solution, reading witness cones, spraying soda, monitoring and adjusting the firings as needed, shutting the kiln down, cleaning after firings, etc.  These are late evening shifts: 8pm-12am in our Watertown studio. They are also heavily involved with an actively firing kiln around 2200 degrees F. If you do not have weekday evening availability, or are wary of fire, this position wouldn't be a good fit.

The Perks:
free Independent Study (typically $190/month) and unlimited access to the studio. Work exchange can use up to 25 lbs of clay per month, with the option to purchase 25 more at $2/lb. You'll also be gaining specialized skills and knowledge in regards to soda firing + atmospheric kilns on the whole that could be helpful for your own studio practice. You will also have access to putting work in the soda kiln.

This form collects applications on a rolling basis, we will be in touch when a work exchange position becomes available.
