Some Background:
Over the past three years, the New Westminster Homelessness Coalition Society has been reconnecting with its roots as a strong advocate for securing essential support for those who are unhoused or at risk. In the first phase of our new strategic planning process, we established a renewed Vision, Mission/Purpose while articulating our core values:
- Vision: a Connected and Compassionate Community where Everyone Belongs
- Mission, or Purpose: to Inform, Engage and Advocate to improve life for unhoused and at-risk people in New Westminster.
- Our Values:
We believe everyone deserves compassion and care.
We believe people should be involved in the decisions that impact their lives.
We learn from our actions to continually improve.
We believe in and advocate for culturally appropriate, inclusive, decolonizing, and anti-oppressive practices.
We help people understand complex issues.
We believe everyone has something valuable to contribute.
We launched our Inform, Engage, and Advocate (IEA) series during HAW 2023, and for HAW 2024, we focused on Homelessness 101, our theme for the year. Both the 2023 and 2024 editions of IEA are available at nwhomeless.ca. Through our community work in 2023 and 2024, one theme became clear for 2025—Advocacy.
In 2025, we will lay the foundation for the New West Advocacy Network, officially launching it during Homelessness Action Week (October 11–18, 2025).
This initiative will support the implementation of CNW’s Homelessness Action Strategy while also serving as a community engagement tool, equipping residents with the information and resources needed to advocate for a wide range of issues aligned with our new Vision and Mission.
We need your to help to lay this foundation!
