As a member of the 28th Massachusetts, Company B, I hereby acknowledge that I will follow the Unit’s established policies, by-laws, and safety standards while participating in 28th Massachusetts-sanctioned events, or while representing the 28th Massachusetts at other events or activities. Completion and submission of this form is signature authority.

Family Membership - $50 – counts as one vote unless - Each family member can have a separate vote for an additional $10 per family member. (e.g. $60 = 2 votes, etc.)

Regular Membership - $45 - counts as one vote.

I represent and warrant to The 28th Mass that I am the parent or legal guardian of the minor named above. The above named minor has my permission to participate in Primary and Secondary events sanctioned by the 28th Mass. I have read and understand the terms and conditions of the Agreement and Release. On behalf of such minor and myself, I agree to all of the terms and conditions of the Agreement and Release.

Voluntary Participation: I acknowledge that I have voluntarily applied to participate in events formally sanctioned by the 28th Massachusetts, Company B, a non-profit corporation incorporated in Virginia, which is dedicated to the purpose of presenting Civil War era (1861 through 1865) living military history programs. The 28th Massachusetts, Company B is composed of volunteers including its Military Cadre and Company, Civilians, Board Members, and Executive Staff, all hereinafter called “The 28th Mass.” In consideration of the opportunity afforded me to participate in Primary and Secondary events formally sanctioned by The 28th Mass (i.e., Primary and Secondary Events), I agree as follows:

Assumption of Risks: I am aware that by participating in events formally sanctioned by the membership of The 28th Mass (i.e., Primary and Secondary events), I may be exposed to personal injury, death, or damage to my property as a result of my activities, the activities of other persons in The 28th Mass, or the conditions under which my volunteer services are performed with The 28th Mass. With knowledge of these risks, I agree to accept any and all risks of personal injury, death or damage to my property to the extent not covered by any insurance, and I verify this statement by checking "Yes, I accept the terms as noted above" below. 

Covenant Not To Sue, Release, Waiver, Indemnity: I hereby promise that I, my successors, assignees, heirs, guardians and legal representatives, will not make any claim against The 28th Mass, for injury, death, or damage resulting from the act or omissions of The 28th Mass arising from my participation in said events, provided that the injury, death or damage was not caused by an act or omission that was grossly negligent, reckless, wanton, or intended to harm. I hereby waive and release my rights, actions, or causes of action against The 28th Mass, resulting from personal injury to me, or my death, or damage to my property, sustained in connection with my participation in Primary and Secondary events sanctioned by The 28th Mass, provided that the injury, death or damage was not caused by an act or omission that was grossly negligent, reckless, wanton, or intended to harm. This covenant, release, and waiver shall not apply to defeat any existing insurance coverage that would pay a claim absent this covenant, release, and waiver. Further, I agree to defend and indemnify The 28th Mass for any uninsured expense or claim arising out of any action or failure to act of mine during a sanctioned event. 

Knowing and Voluntary Execution: I have carefully read this agreement and fully understand its contents. I am aware that this is a contract and a release of liability between me and the 28th Mass and I sign it of my own free will. By signing this agreement, I certify that I am 18 years of age or older. If I am less than 18 years of age, I have the consent, and agreement of my parent or guardian to participate pursuant to the above agreement, and my parent or guardian assumes the risk, and waives and releases my rights on my behalf as evidenced by his/her signature below.

General Information

Dues are non-refundable and non-transferable. 

A single-family member, designated at the time of registration may vote. Additional family members may secure one additional vote each by paying a supplemental membership fee of $10. 

Family members who have paid regular or supplemental dues (except for “Associate” may hold elective office. Junior members who are not musicians may not hold office. 

The 28th Mass, Company B, is a non-profit corporation in Virginia. Dues are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. 

The right to bear/use firearms is contingent upon meeting all unit age and safety certification requirements. For the purpose of bearing arms only an adult is considered to be 16 years or older. Honorary members may bear/use arms only with the permission of the Commanding Officer and after meeting all applicable age or safety requirements and regulations.
