The "Sardine Can" Puzzler.
"Packed as tight as sardines in a can" is a metaphor for being jammed together in a very tight space. Sardines are little fish, enjoyed by some as a delicacy. They are usually packed in oil in small tin cans for sale (see banner photo for details). Assuming that sardine canning companies would want to maximize profits by keeping their costs down for their products, why do sardine manufacturers try to pack as many fish as they can into each tin can?
(Hint: This is a cost of production question!)
